Girl at the Pediatrician

About Us

Welcome to Ancaster Pediatric & Breastfeeding Clinic!

Your child’s health is our top priority.

We will work diligently to help them feel their best!

Please note, THIS IS NOT AN URGENT CARE OR WALK-IN CLINIC. Appointments are on a scheduled basis.

Pediatric Care

Dr. Amer is a consult pediatrician; this means a physician, midwife or nurse practitioner will need to refer your child to us with their specific concern.

If you are wishing  developmental and preventative pediatric care for your infant until 18 months of age, patients are accepted with a referral. After this time, your child will receive ongoing primary care with their family physician.

What to Expect Once Your Referral is Received

Once a referral is received for your child, our team will triage the referral based on urgency. You will be contacted with a scheduled appointment for an initial consultation with the pediatrician. Please let us know if you wish to be added to our cancellation list.

Once a diagnosis and treatment plan is provided and your child is stabilized, your child will be discharged back to their family physician for ongoing care.

Meet the Team

Dr. Tehmina Amer Pediatrician Dr. Tehmina Amer is the consulting pediatrician for patients seen at Ancaster Pediatric and Breastfeeding Clinic. She has a special interest in newborns' feeding & growth; promoting breastfeeding and infant nutrition. Additionally, she has academic interests in eczema and asthma. Dr. Amer graduated from Fatima Jinnah medical college Lahore (Pakistan) in 1988. After postgraduate pediatric training at Islamabad Children’s Hospital, she worked as a pediatrician back home until 2002 when she immigrated to Canada. She completed her Pediatric residency at McMaster Children Hospital (2007-2011) and started working as a community pediatrician in Oakville. In 2015, she came to Ancaster Medical Center and established Ancaster Pediatrics. She has been seeing infants and children for a variety of medical challenges. She also worked at BGH (Brantford General) as a consultant pediatrician in 2015,but due to increased workload in the community, she chose to resign from the hospital in 2020. During the pandemic in 2021, with increasing medical demands, she expanded her practice to support breastfeeding families; this was greatly needed in the expanding Ancaster community. Dr. Amer is a dedicated pediatrician who believes that parents are the true experts in their own children and she is passionate about working with families to optimize the health of her patients.

Josie A. Medical Receptionist & Office Manager Josie has been working with Dr. Amer since 2012. She has a background in International and Political Studies, History and International Business for which she received degrees at Suny Brockport University in New York. She completed her Medical Administration diploma with Everest College in 2011 and has since also added a certification for injections to her portfolio from Medix College in 2013. Josie has 2 children of her own and understands the importance of great patient care; she works diligently to initiate new referrals, arrange follow ups and ensures results are provided in a timely manner.

Basia Cook Registered Nurse International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Basia graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2013. She began her career as a registered nurse at a large family practice, working collaboratively with an Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine-accredited physician in a busy breastfeeding clinic. Providing breastfeeding support soon became her passion and she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in January 2019. In 2021 she began working in the hospital setting, where she continues to work, providing support immediately post birth, for families with babies in the NICU and in the outpatient breastfeeding clinic. The same year, she began work for the Ontario Breastfeeding Network, providing virtual support to mothers all over Ontario. During her work with OBN, she met Dr. Amer and together they added a breastfeeding clinic to her existing pediatric practice at Ancaster Pediatrics. Since 2014, she has provided thousands of hours of breastfeeding support and education, helping families & new mothers reach their breastfeeding/breastmilk feeding goals. She can guide you to resolve any feeding challenges you may encounter by providing compassionate, evidence-based & individualized recommendations. Breastfeeding isn’t always easy and the abundance of information about infant feeding can be overwhelming. Basia will provide you with a plan based on your goals, leaving you feeling confident and empowered to feed your baby in a way that works for you and your family.
