Meet the Team

Dr. Tehmina Amer

Pediatrician

Dr. Tehmina Amer is the consulting pediatrician for patients seen at Ancaster Pediatric and Breastfeeding Clinic. She has a special interest in newborns’ feeding & growth; promoting breastfeeding and infant nutrition. Additionally, she has academic interests in eczema and asthma.

Dr. Amer graduated from Fatima Jinnah medical college Lahore (Pakistan) in 1988. After postgraduate pediatric training at Islamabad Children’s Hospital, she worked as a pediatrician back home until 2002 when she immigrated to Canada. She completed her Pediatric residency at McMaster Children Hospital (2007-2011) and started working as a community pediatrician in Oakville.

In 2015, she came to Ancaster Medical Center and established Ancaster Pediatrics. She has been seeing infants and children for a variety of medical challenges. She also worked at BGH (Brantford General) as a consultant pediatrician in 2015,but due to increased workload in the community, she chose to resign from the hospital in 2020.

During the pandemic in 2021, with increasing medical demands, she expanded her practice to support breastfeeding families; this was greatly needed in the expanding Ancaster community.

Dr. Amer is a dedicated pediatrician who believes that parents are the true experts in their own children and she is passionate about working with families to optimize the health of her patients.

Basia Cook

Registered Nurse
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Basia graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2013. She began her career as a registered nurse at a large family practice, working collaboratively with an Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine-accredited physician in a busy breastfeeding clinic. Providing breastfeeding support soon became her passion and she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in January 2019.

In 2021 she began working in the hospital setting, where she continues to work, providing support immediately post birth, for families with babies in the NICU and in the outpatient breastfeeding clinic. The same year, she began work for the Ontario Breastfeeding Network, providing virtual support to mothers all over Ontario. During her work with OBN, she met Dr. Amer and together they added a breastfeeding clinic to her existing pediatric practice at Ancaster Pediatrics.

Since 2014, she has provided thousands of hours of breastfeeding support and education, helping families & new mothers reach their breastfeeding/breastmilk feeding goals. She can guide you to resolve any feeding challenges you may encounter by providing compassionate, evidence-based & individualized recommendations.

Breastfeeding isn’t always easy and the abundance of information about infant feeding can be overwhelming. Basia will provide you with a plan based on your goals, leaving you feeling confident and empowered to feed your baby in a way that works for you and your family.
